New skills

So...I tried shooting something a little new about a month ago and finally combined the photos with the editing skills and put them together into a composition. Let me know what you think!

And a shout out to the Queensberry wedding party - you all were a blast!

365

Ok, so I broke one promise about posting a 365 update every week BUT I have been taking the pictures. I know your curiosity was peeked and then I left you hanging out in the cyber abyss so I apologize, I won’t let it happen again. Now, without further ado – the first month in pictures (and then some) is up on the facebook! (clbphotography)

But so you don’t have to go anywhere, here are a few of my favs:

I had some fun playing with HDR

Our first ripe tomato - and a natural color pop!

 Two words: DE-LISH

 Playing with light and exposure

Hey if it comes with a mallet you know it's going to be good! I call this one: Conquered!

Hope you all have enjoyed my small sample - keep checking back, one month down 11 to go!

The first week of photos

I am a week into taking a photo every day and so far it's going well. It's been fun to take time and focus on something photographic every day. I've had some fun ones from the last week but my favorites were from the 4th of July. Fireworks photos were so much fun to take and thanks to Caryn Esplin with her great tips and tricks! Here are just a few samples, enjoy!

Travis and Lauren ~ Married

I love this couple! They are just naturals in front of the camera and so fun to shoot! You can tell just by looking at them the love they have for each other. Here's a few fun images from their special day.

The adorable flower girl at the girls brunch at the start of the day.

Lauren's mom, Theresa owns Elite Style Salon in Blacksburg, VA so you know this wedding was full of great hair styles

Travis surprised Lauren with a serenade of "God gave me you" by Blake Shelton - it was so sweet!

Some of the groomsmen getting down to Michael Jackson.
Being Blacksburg we had to get in some Hokie Pokie in support of VA Tech!

Congrats Lauren and Travis! It was so much fun being a part of your day!

Taking on a new project

Alright followers!

It's been a few months since I've posted so here's a quick catch up: I moved, was hired on at a transportation research facility (my day job to support my career :), got a new car, a new phone, and a new camera is right around the corner! Lots and lots of changes and it's been a whirlwind trying to keep up.

On the photography side: I've been doing so much to actually turn this into a full time gig. I'm currently taking a class with Improve Photography (check them out they are awesome!) that has been teaching me so much about focusing my business and thinking about what I want it to look like - check back for a lot of exciting changes coming soon! I've also been scouring blogs, reading books, and of course shooting! I've had a few weddings this summer and am second shooting for Michael Keys out of Radford, VA. Needless to say I've been busy, so sorry I've not updated you dear blog - you weren't forgotten.

Well with everything I've been reading and learning I've felt like I needed a chance to put it into practice! So hear it is: my out loud commitment (decided only last week, started on Sunday) I am going to shoot something with my camera every day for a YEAR! (aaahhh...sooo nervous I'll be able to keep this up). But I'm committing out loud and I'm going to do my best.

Ok, some perimeters - must take 1 picture every day from July 1st, 2012 to June 30, 2013. I can use whatever camera/lens combination. Will blog about the weekly photos once a week (this will also keep you updated as well as help me to blog more). Photos can be a part of a wedding/engagement session I'm shooting, but if so must have some new creative element introduced. If the photo is taken with a skill I already have then the "creativity" for that day can be a new editing technique.

So there it is: now it's public and has to happen - and to the people around me get ready to be models! Thanks for reading and I can't wait to see what this year holds.

Things I dislike

In the spirit of being more personable...

Yes I love many things but there a few I just can't handle:

Peppers!

I wish I could learn to love them but I hate them :( The taste, the smell, and some times the spicy-ness. I hate when they are unexpectedly in food or when people cook with them and then I'm forced to eat them to be polite. Sorry to those of you who have cooked stuffed peppers for me.

Food that turns your mouth blue!

...or any color really. I don't like it when your teeth or tongue or anything change color. This is probably the main reason why I don't eat a lot of hard candy-can't risk it.

Scary movies

So much so I don't even want an image on here. Why be entertained by terror? How numb do you have to be to enjoy that. NO THANK YOU.

Wet socks:
Well, yes puddle jumping is fun, unexpected puddles that leave your feet wet and cold for hours is no fun. And if there is nothing you can do about it then it's all the worse. Another similar problem, when the hem of your pants gets wet and then transfers to your socks. Only made worse by being short and not being able to find the right length pants.

And lastly, when people feel like they don't matter. No matter who you are or what you've done don't let anyone make you feel less than wonderful. "You is smart, you is kind, you is important."-The Help

Things I love

Ok....it's a new year and with that tends to come resolutions. Here's my main one-to blog more often :) To regularly keep you updated on what I'm doing as a photographer and in life as well. So in order to do that lets start at the beginning-a little bit about me and the things I love:

My sisters:

No matter what or where we are, my sisters are my best friends, we can hang out and do nothing or have the best time and laugh until we cry-and through whatever, I know we will always be there for each other.

My parents:
No matter what I need or where I am they are always there for me and willing to help. And they are crazy enough to keep all of us laughing :)

My girls:
As scattered throughout the country as we are, I love that we are just a phone call away.

My man:

Funny, supportive, wonderful, caring, can't ever make a serious face in pictures, and always calms me down when I get a little crazy.

Color:

I love the way it can brighten a room or change a mood. How it can be created purposefully or just stumbled across. How it's found in nature, or created by artists. Color inspires.

Coffee:

The taste, the smell, the different roasts, the way it makes me a more pleasant person in the morning.

Food:
From any country, any variety, any time of day. I love watching about food, cooking food, reading about food-yes...I think there is a 300 pound person stuck inside my petite 5'3 frame. But seriously, I love how food can nourish, comfort, and cheer. How cathartic cooking is and how fun sitting around a table can be. Food brings people together.

Nature:

The beauty you stumble across or seek out, the scenes that are waiting to be shot. Be it breathtaking sunrises or the still quiet of the rain forest I love being out in the world, exploring.

My newest inspiration:
While I have many inspirations the latest is Jasmine Star's Exposed magazine. Her honesty in mistakes and tips where she excelled inspired me to do more and be more, to stop being held back by my fears and go for it-to take risks for the things I love. So where ever you are out there in the great universe, thank you Jasmine Star for not giving up on your dream-and being real enough to encourage others to do the same.

Well, that's just a little taste for now, an insight into who I am when I'm not behind a camera. I hope you enjoyed it. And for those who were featured, thanks for making a difference in my life :)
